Development Pt 6

Night Gaunts

I have never drawn clouds before, so using the photographs I had taken I tried to gain a better understanding in terms of composition and lighting. The original illustration depicts a busy city scene from which the protagonist is abducted, I wanted to change that a little and place the protagonist's house in  wooded area to push the idea of isolation. It was on this page I experimented with how to draw the trees and the different expressions of the protagonist. I had no idea if I was going to even include his face in the final illustrations, but it was a measure I felt important to take just in case.

Looking at architecture from the village of Greatham, I created a mockup of a potential home building. Again, I did not know if it would be included in the illustrations, but I wanted to explore every avenue so I was well prepared in case it was. I also tried my hand at digital illustration, and despite liking the outcome, I felt it was definitely way too cartoonish to be suited for the Necronomicon. At this point I was worried about how progressed the night gaunts story was and how far behind the cats of ulthar had become, so I returned to trying to break the art block on the design of the cats.
