Book of Drawings: Developing the Drawings Part 1

The book of drawings required us to pick one of our past modules (Reportage, Animals, People/Characters, or Digital) to assume as a topic for a book that we create from scratch to include six drawings; my initial thoughts were to create my book under the guise of People/Characters, so that is precisely how my development started.

Using a random word generator (found here) I selected six words/phrases to use for my six drawings. The first six words were Comet, Morning Tea, Horn, Moon, Beast and Chameleon - after a little deliberation and attempted character planning, I decided I wasn't happy with the first two words and reselected them as top hat and raincoat.

(The left and centre images are my initial designs for 'comet')

After deciding to change the words, I started trying to design the piece for the word 'raincoat'. I had no luck and felt uninspired by my character ideas, so decided to play about with the idea of a cat in a raincoat (this started as an out of mind doodle, however after I finished the drawing I came to like the idea) - this is where my project took its first sharp turn.

(My original belief was that the final piece in the book of drawings would be done with quick ink and water. My project was still under the title of characters however it was branching more into animals than previously.)
