Reportage Sketchbooks P1

Sketchbook 1

This book was mainly getting to grips with the idea of reportage - studying my surroundings and drawing what I saw onto my paper. Throughout the book I used mainly pencil for quick sketches - though this was good for correcting mistakes, I should have used a softer grade to create darker lines. Any other material used was fineliner.

Sketchbook 2

Another sketchbook with plenty of drawings from around Saltaire - however, learning from the previous book I used a softer pencil for darker tones which, in my opinion, already made my work appear much better, much clearer. In this book, towards the end, I dabbled with different materials such as coloured fineliner, coffee, ink and water.

Sketchbook 3

Venturing away from Saltaire, most of the sketches in this book come from behind the bar and around my classroom - I admit the latter seems a lot less adventurous, but I did not spend too much time on drawings around my classroom. It was in this book that I stopped using pencil so much and started to use felt tip instead - it captured a lot more movement and made my sketches seem a little more dynamic, so from here on out pencil sketches became much fewer.

At the Bar

The sketch on the far right of this photoset was done without looking at the page, and so seems a lot more chaotic than the others.
