Character Development: Further Advancement

As I said in the previous post, I wasn't happy with my characters appearance, and so began developing a slightly less cartoonish style - though not in the form of realism, I felt her personality was comical enough without a complete declassification of a more realistic style.

This was the first image of 'Shithead' that more closely regarded accurate human anatomy - it was never my intention to create something that looked exactly like a human being, so I still adapted a more comic book style with thick outlines.

My biggest challenge in her development was coming up with an outfit I was happy with - I divulged away from military style to a more carnival approach, however this style didn't seem to really reflect her "no-fuss" attitude, so this outfit was quickly scrapped.

I also needed a complete new hairstyle - I wanted to make it glaringly obvious that my character was punk without including complex outfits with lots of adornments - so the next step was the haircut and body modifications (piercings, tattoos, etc.). I decided against tattoos as the detail I'd have to put in was something I simply didn't have the time for - as much as I'd have liked to have them, I was very aware of my two week time limit to do this and other things.

The upper left image was my first recreation of her face - I needed to make her seem more like a hero so the mask seemed apt. However, she seemed much too close to an existing character (Ramona Flowers/Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O'Malley) so the second image was my newer creation. I was happy with this development, so I decided to draw her in more detail.

It was with this image that I decided yes, I was very happy with her new design and wanted to keep this one - I assumed the outfit to be all black and relatively loose fitting - I did not want to sexualise her as it didn't seem to fit in with her personality, and wanted to keep her outfit ready for combat.
