People and Characters Wall Collaboration Part 1

Over the course of two weeks, Daniel Parkinson, Michaela Thompson, Jak Pengilley and myself created a fairly large scale collaboration piece on a section of a wall in the reception area of CCAD - though unsure of the rest of my groups' stance on this, it was very much my first time doing something like this (I have never done collab work before much less to this scale) and though I really enjoyed it, it was a difficult process that would definitely require a lot more planning if I were to take part in it again.

When the two weeks started and we were in our groups, none of us had any idea what we were actually going to do - we were given the brief "characters" and that was it. We decided to each come up with two words to write on paper and draw out of a hat - five words would be drawn, the first would be our overall brief and the following we would draw out one each, picking a sub-topic for our character. The overall brief turned out to be "superheroes" - Dan drew Biblical, Jak drew Happy, Michaela drew Nature and I drew Punk. These were all the initial inspirations for our characters.

This is mine and Dan's characters up on the walls - first to finish the design process, we were first to put our characters up. My character is on the right, in the process of being outlined and removing the pencil marks.

A more panned out photo - the progress on my outlining is slow and steady, whilst Jak is placing the starts of his character on the wall in pencil. At this point, Dan was elsewhere creating ideas of sketches that could fill in the blanks of the wall where all of our characters did not.

I'd started to colour the upper half of the body of my character, probably getting impatient with outlining. Dan started the process of outlining his character, and Jak is fine tuning the face of his own. At this point, Michaela was still designing her character, as her designs turned out to be very complex and time consuming.
